PS3 Defining game August 9, 2010 Steve 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a PS3 defining game. Excellent graphics, well thought out adventure. The whole game is excellent, even if you are not a fan of the hack and slash genre. This game features one of the BEST boss battles in any video game I've ever played. Ever. The price of admission is worth this one battle boss battle alone... I haven't met one person that said they didn't enjoy the game. Myself included.
Awesome action game August 8, 2010 Jake H. (Mid West) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is probably one of the coolest game I have ever played on a console. The action sequences are absolutely incredible. I could go into a lot of detail but I don't want to spoil it for you. If you own a PS3 you really should try this game, either rent or buy. If you like action games and aren't turned off by gore, this should be one of the first few games you try.
Kick ass game.
Oh my goodness!!!!!!!!! August 8, 2010 TRFB 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This game is INCREDIBLE!!!! I thought this game would make a GREAT movie!!! Then, I thought, that the game itself surpasses any game that would be made. Given that most Game-To-Movies are terrible.
Incredible graphics. You have got to play this game. Definitely NOT FOR KIDS!!!! And I don't mean because of graphics. When you are in the room of Aphrodite, it's really way over the top and didn't need to be in the story. I kind of wish that part wasn't in there. But, it appeals to all these hormonal teenagers and um' lonely male adults....anyway the plot of the game is simple. Kill Zeus. Which is funny to me how the Greek gods are as mortal as...well mortals. But, that's what makes them fantasy and not real. So, anyway, Kratos the character is going after Zeus and kills main bosses along the way. But, no spoilers here. What is cool is that when you defeat each boss, you acquire their weapons.
Graphics, Sound, gameplay, you couldn't ask for a better gaming experience.
In fact the voice talents are amazing. Adrienne Barbeau, Clancy Brown, Elijah Woods, and others.
What a game, what a game. If you have never played God Of War III on PS3, you have got to rent it or buy. It is incredible. I know that there are the previous versions I and II for the PS2, but I'm afraid to play those because I'm afraid it will not live up to what the PS3 delivered. I heard that they are coming out with a new God of War!!!
So, I highly recommend this game. You will be mesmerized for hours on end!!!
Flat Story, Gratuitous Violence, Overt Sexuality, definitely NOT for Kids August 7, 2010 J. Hines (North Carolina) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I got this game on the recommendation of friends who said that if I had enjoyed Uncharted 2, I would really like GoW3. Unfortunately, they were mistaken.
I did absolutely LOVE Uncharted 2, but GoW3 was lacking in many ways for me.
First of all, the story was quite flat and there was almost zero character development for the protagonist until the final five minutes of the game. There was really nothing intriguing about the story line (except for his family history) and I kept hoping that the game would actually go somewhere rather than just being entirely about revenge, but I was disappointed there.
The main character, Kratos, is on a mega revenge kick from the start, and this plays out in his often super-violent extermination of the gods of Olympus. I'm not one to be sensitive about these things, but I tired quickly of the "punch" prompt in finishing off various characters. It was just way more than was necessary.
The other major shortcoming to this game was the completely unnecessary level of strong sexuality present in a number of places. It added absolutely nothing to the story, and amounts to nothing more than animated porn. I'm not opposed to tasteful levels if it is part of the natural story, but this was certainly not the case here.
Overall, yes, the graphics were good, and the fighting style decently fun, although on that note the camera was often zoomed too far back to really appreciate it, and you can't control camera angle except in a very few instances.
I played Uncharted 2 all the way through multiple times just because it was so much fun; but I traded in God of War 3 the very day after I beat it. I certainly wouldn't recommend God of War to anyone else.
Should have ended at GoW2 August 5, 2010 Rogue 0 out of 5 found this review helpful
My son, age 17, has been waiting for this game. He has the first two, which he liked. He actually finished this game in 3 hours of play, at normal level not easy. The game was 75% movies and cut-scenes. The battles were boring and redundant. He said that the storyline sucked. The weapons were lame and useless. He said that they should have made GoW2 a little longer and they could have ended it there. No, the makers just had to get greedy and make a poorly designed third installment to get unsuspecting people's money. Kill all the gods, they are immortal and cannot be killed. Kratos' goal was to kill Zeus, but he just destroys everything instead including himself. LAME! If you must play this game, PLEASE rent it first. Do not waste your money on it. My son said that it was the worst sequel in a game sequence that he has ever played.
